Debut

It's funny to me how things never happen in isolation - a couple week's back I wrote about Fable wines, and then last week Debutant, from De Kleine Wijn Koop (they have google translator on their site), shows up on The Dieline.

With a spellbinding design by the talented peeps at Fanakalo (read more about them here), it made one of my American non-wine drinking work buddies say, if he were to drink wine it would be this. Indeed.

Click on the image to see it bigger and marvel at it's awesomeness.

:) love the tag line at the bottom of the label ... a health warning to beat all others!

HA I hadn't noticed that...

I should mention what it says. It's Afrikaans, and it goes, "Moenie drink en in die pad stap nie - jy kan sterf". Now, Afrikaans was not my forte at school, so here's my best shot: it means, don't drink and walk in the road - you could die.

Anyone do any better with that translation? It's one thing to understand it, it's another to translate it so it makes sense in English without sounding translated!

Yes thats it exactly and while I can't think of a more lyrical as in less literal translation ( I too am a Soutie!) its the very baldness of it (as opposed to the super well known, "Drink responsibly' or 'Dont drink and drive' etc etc) that raises an ironic smile....
That said the complex graphics are pretty stunning too esp with that extra bit on the foil around the bottle neck an area usually left plain and unadorned....

Beautiful label design! I'd definitely drink that :)
And I see it is limited to an edition of just 600 bottles... it must be very special indeed.
