Check out my post on 2modern on Mud Studio. I saw their work at Anthropologie last week, and its lovely.

The Silly Season
Gotta love it!
Enjoy more great cards at Asher House. For my American friends, some of their collection is available at Anthropologie. And here's a little more about gumboot dancing.

As I was saying...
So, what's my favourite chair?
But if I was a wee one, I think it would be the rocking horse I showed over at 2modern last Friday.
'
Thanks to the folks at Dwell, I discovered the work of Joom... but they don't only have great product design, but other fabulous design.

and I LOVE the icons from the capetownmagazine.com website
Joom has just so much good work. I wonder if they need a hand... let me know if you do! I'll be there, like a bear!

Joom
Check out my post on 2modern today... and Joom's lovely product design. But next week you'll see more of them here, because they have just as exciting graphic design, illustration and more that I want to share with you.
For now, this is a little taste of their website. See the bokkies up top? They spring their way through whatever page you're on. So fun!

Head on over to Design*Sponge for Gary of Spray Glue's take on new up-and-coming designers from South Africa. Nicely done!
He features some of my fave artists/designers, like Heather Moore and Heath Nash, as well as some newbies for me.
Watch my Friday post for more info on Heath Nash's fabulous work.

Storms a-brewing!
After getting a few inches of snow last night, the first of the season, I found this gorgeous shot of an African storm, on the Empire Collective. Wow.
I do miss the frequent thunderstorms in Joburg.

Ex-South African? Not me!
So I was taking a moment to recharge between projects tonight, and came across my name on the Elle Deco blog!
Woah! What a great surprise! And thank you for the kind words, Heather. And, as much as I enjoy living in Boston, I certainly am South African through and through. I really think the good folks at home are up to date on their SA design (I envy your access to getting out and seeing things) and really hope that my stint on 2modern will introduce my American friends to the wonders of SA design. My apologies for the few-and-far-between posts these days, but classes end in two weeks. Can't wait! Then we'll be back to business!
Now, head on over to the Elle Decor blog to sign up on the petition to save the Werdmuller Centre. It would be a pity if it disappeared. More info on the blog.

Pssst!
I have a second between the tasks on the to-do list, so thought I'd point you towards my newest post on 2modern. I love Astrid Dahl's work!
Flowers seem to be the theme of the day, because I also want to show you Jesse's beautiful linocut. Can't wait to see the fabric she makes with it. I think I'll have to order one when she sells them...
And now that I'm inspired again, I'm off to get more work done! See you soon!

I'll Be Right Back
This beautiful sunrise in the South African bush, at a reserve called Makalali, compliments of Leslie Macmillan.
With things hitting crunch time at my night classes, I'm afraid I will be taking a break from South of the Sahara for a bit. Hopefully I'll be back in full force, showcasing fantastic southern African design, in about a month.
In the mean time, do check out my Friday blogs at 2Modern.

Afro-dizzy!
Thanks to a recent post on Carolyn's blog, I discovered the fun, fantastic world of AfroCafe! The colours! The patterns! I wish I was in Cape Town or Salzburg.
I get all mesmerised just looking at their website :) I wonder if their tea and coffee is as much fun?

Feelings of Autumn
Xander's post is playing completely to my mood, with the leaves falling, the air feeling brisker...
"One of the things I loved most about living in Cape Town was how varied the landscape was. The city is stretched over an angular peninsular, broken apart and divided by hills and mountains, and pressed tightly against the sea. Within a relatively small area, the metropolitan landscape ranges from urban center to oceanside resort, from lush suburbs to tumbledown townships. The differences in terrain are only made more pronounced as the seasons change. In autumn, my neighborhood of Sea Point became gray and fairly dull, with listless colors dripping off moping shopfronts. Around Table Mountain at my university, it was rather more pleasant, with a misty blanket of fog that gathered above the treetops. Further around Devil's Peak however, autumn was displayed with incredible beauty and atmosphere; the suburban forest of orange and red leaves parting in spots to reveal the odd gable of a colonial manse, puffs of smoke curling from its chimney.
On a particularly beautiful day last autumn, Bordeaux and I followed the M-1 around the curve of Devil's Peak to Constantia. We drove in past thick white plaster gates, to Groot Constantia, an historic 17th Century wineyard and plantation home..."

American Inspiration
Okay, folks, I don't usually mention things from my new home, the States, but this is a daily addiction of mine, and I'd love to share it with you. The Sartorialist may already be (probably is!) part of your daily blog reading, too, and is well worth it. Sart (also known as Scott) finds inspiring fashions on people on the street. It's lovely what he finds... for me the cool thing is that he is not only looking for high-end stuff. You could be wearing a sack cloth artfully and you could be on his blog.
Today he posted a web posting of a day when a crew from NBC followed him. I thought it was really interesting to finally see behind the scenes. Check it out here.
Here are some recent pics. Check out his blog for more gorgeous shots.

Spoons
It seems I wasn't alone in being inspired by Skinny's spoon post, it seems everyone has been bitten by the bug. Visit her site, it is spoon mania!
Here is the latest victim, Freshly Found... although I don't know if she has seen Skinny's posts.

Ocean Views and Great Design
A friend of mine recently sent me photos of a house he has renovated... it's gorgeous! I thought I'd share it with you guys as you may appreciate it. I personally love the clean lines, and that kind of house is perfect for Durban (where it's located): for keeping cool, making sure beach sand is not an issue, and enjoying the beautiful Indian Ocean.
PS: The house is now for sale, by the way. If you're interested, let me know :)

Super!
My favourite addiction, Elle Decoration South Africa, is online! I've googled them many times before but not found this... not sure why but I'm glad that Skinny mentioned them.
Here are a couple images from their blog posting on Cape Town interiors store, o.live.
Doesn't that jug in the first image look a little like the Anthropologie jug I posted about a while back?

A Jezze After My Own Heart
Ah, gotta love the can-do attitude. I love that Jezze has made her kitchen (and loo!) enviro-friendly and smart, and not to mention cute*. I agree that making things does not mean resorting to the middle ages, or other silly things. Just using your head about stuff.
Now, drool her at ingenuity.
*cute in the American sense of the word: adorable, pretty, lovely. Not the SA sense of the word: cutesy.
