My Latest Favourite Thing

Has been spending a lot of time around my neck.

Do you like it? I think it's great because of its tiny size. You can get your own here, or one of the place close to your heart.

Rockport Garden Tour 2012

This year I tried a new (to me) garden tour - in Rockport, Massachusetts. I'm used to the walking ones in Boston (South End and Beacon Hill) so driving was a new experience for me. Luckily I had two good friends to keep me company and we had an awesome time. Here are some pics, if you'd like to see (and the South End ones from June will follow shortly... few more pics in there to edit!)

We started up on the hill overlooking the town...

I had no idea these little guys were called balloon flowers... can you see why?

One of my favourite homes had a large property with a wetland behind the yard, and some lovely features along the way.

Another home was positioned perfectly for this view. Apparently I loved the view more than the garden, I don't have any spectacular shots to share.

I loved this house - it had lovely little nautical touches everywhere, and blueberries in the garden. See the whales emerging from the lawn?

I loved the neighbors' house too! Not on the tour but fair game for photos!

Here are some shots from the one of the gardens that had a lovely water feature.

Right near the end we went to this house. It's garden was my favourite favourite. Big patches of different plants so you can see what's there, lots of grasses, flowers and hardy succulents to deal with the wind... with this view, I don't think I would ever leave.

And what is a garden tour in coastal New England without hydrangea? And hydrangea... And hydrangea...

Cavalli Gold

Love this identity set for a wine and stud farm in Stellenbosch, South Africa - Cavalli Wine and Stud Farm- an interesting combo of business ventures, captured beautifully in the logo.

Love the website too - go check it out, there are lots of lovely things to see... a virtual feast.

Designed by Studio Botes, and beautifully too. Well done! These guys (guy?) seems to do fantastic work, no matter what they do, from the world-renown Design Indaba to gorgeous packaging for sweet piquante peppers. No doubt there will be more posts here about their work.

More Shots from the Mid West...

Pizza in the Heartland

So, if you're American you know this. Wednesday was the Fourth of July - and I was lucky this year because I spent it surrounded by my American family. Yep, we all met up in Wisconsin, the dairy state. It was a great time... and we got to spend quality time with those we love, including our amazing Godson, his sweet sister and their parents for a couple of days. A highlight for me was the trip to the local pizza parlor. Don't think you'd find this in Boston (unless it's faked).

Another highlight? A tractor ride. The kids loved it (me too)!

We also headed into the nearest city, Duluth (Minnesota). I'd like to share some of the beautiful old signage on the buidlings...

And some shots from the sailing museum in the harbor. The graphic designer in me just can't help it.

 Some more snaps coming up!

Maria McCloy

I am one lucky lady. I've been absent lately because my fabulous Mom-in-Law is visiting and that means I've been busy kuiering* instead of sitting at my desk. It's been great (pics to follow)!... I am also lucky because in her suitcase was something for me from my Mama - a gorgeous clutch from Maria McCloy, in dashiki fabric.

That's me, fresh from work this afternoon, clutching my clutch (sorry about the weird light going on in those pics). Its the perfect little topper to my favourite piece of clothing - jeans!

I first heard about Maria McCloy's work over at Zodwa's blog (you can too, here) but I was more than chuffed when I saw an South African celebrity carrying one at the BET awards (via Cape Town Style Guide) .Oooooh. This is Lira, and I think that could be dashiki too!

If you like what you see and you live in Johannesburg, you can get your own clutch at Market on Main. If you don't live there, you can contact Maria via email (maria@rage.co.za).

Here are some drool worthy pics. The first is online... the second she sent to me quick-quick so I could choose my purse.
